Father’s Day can be difficult for one thing: WHAT DO WE GET DAD?! I find it tough to buy my Dad or my husband anything because they don’t really “want” anything. But one thing that they always appreciate is time. They just want to hang out and do something fun. Something they like to do, with you!
Make memories and maybe new traditions this Father’s Day!
Father’s Day at the “Nat”
When: Sunday, June 17 1pm to 3pm
Where: Nat Bailey Stadium, Vancouver
What: A free Father’s Day event to warm up the field before the team gets on!
Playing catch with Dad is a timeless activity. Why not play catch on the field from 1pm to 3pm at Nat Bailey Stadium. Bring your own ball and glove and bonus points if you come dressed in the team colours.
When: June 15 – 17
Where: Various Lakes in the lower mainland, see website for participating communities
What: The B.C. Government waives the requirement for a basic freshwater license for June 15, 16 and 17, 2018 (some rules and regulations still apply). Fisheries and Oceans Canada also encourages B.C. residents to try their hand at tidal (saltwater) fishing by allowing license-free fishing (see website for restrictions).
This event is a great time to get re-acquainted with fishing, learn to fish or just an excuse to get out there and go fishing with Dad!
Main Street Car Free Day in Vancouver
When: Sunday, June 17 Noon to 7pm
Where: Broadway to 30th on Main Street, Vancouver
What: A celebration baby! This event has 15 stages and mini-festivals along the entire street. This is a fun, family-friendly event with kid-zones, skateboarders, funky artisan shops and popular food vendors. You can really taste the flavour of Main Street with extended patios from many restaurants. Translink has generously re-routed transit on that day to help you get to the event car-free!
Ditch the car and bring your bikes or park and walk to this vibrant, kid-friendly festival.

Where: Any Lowermainland golf course
What: Book a tee time for your golf-loving Dad at any of the golf courses here in the lower mainland. We have some beautiful ones! Northlands in North Van, Red Woods in Langley, Riverway in Burnaby! There are lots of public ones to choose from. Then do brunch or lunch at the clubhouse afterward!
Mini Golf or Pitch & Putt then Lunch!

Go for a Hike at Golden Ears
When: Sunday: June 17th
Where: Visit Golden Ears provincial park in Maple Ridge

Those are just some ideas to get you started on thinking about what to do on Father’s Day. It’s fun coming up with these ideas and seeing if you end up doing one of them, so tag me in a photo on Instagram or send it to us at @jrfm and @amandalbreen.
